Fine Motor Skills
A selection of toys that help develop fine motor control and hand to eye co-ordination.This is of particular importance when it comes to learning to write and will help children more easily grasp and control a pencil.
If your child has fine motor delay as ours do, there are various activities you can do with them to help gain that link between the hands and brain.
Playdoh is great fun for young kids. It is easy to make and can have glitter or essentail oils added for more appeal. Rolling the dough with the fingers and sculping with pop-sticks or imprinting with shells or seeds can be great fun as well as beneficial for fine motor development.
See our playdoh recipe under 'Free Stuff'.
Other beneficial activities include drawing in sand with a finger or stick and painting on large pieces of paper.
Most important of all to help children continue with these type of activities is positive praise. There is no wrong way to play these activities and children will thrive on the encouragement.
If your child appears to be very behind in fine motor skills then we reccomend you see an occupational therapist for assesment.
